It has been conceptualized with the objective to instilling environmental consciousness among the Ganapati Mandals. It educates people through workshops, demonstrations and seminars. The broad parameter of TGG includes the decoration of idol and method of immersion, both should be environment friendly. Other factors will comprise cultural shows that are not noisy, usage of disposal of material, public participation and civic sense. It will also conduct a beach cleanup drive in various locations in Mumbai.
POP Vs. CLAY IDOLS
Earlier, idols were made of earthen clay instead of Plaster Of Paris (POP). But as demand grew, sculptors began using POP since it’s an easier material to mould and looks better than earthen clay. But during immersion these POP idols release toxic elements ( lead and zinc based paints) into the water and clog up waterways.
